Ye olden days... .Sometimes, when I meet a fellow fan roughly belonging to the same age bracket as I do (rare but it happens), and I want to explain how long I have actually been involved in online fandom, my standard sentence is "I've been online long enough to remember the Due South Ray Wars", which I never actively fought in, I am far too conflict avoidant for that, but still have a very strong opinion regarding which side I stood on, and why. ;)

But today's fandom toxicity is so politically charged, overwhelming and brutal that it's silencing, I fear. Like you, I mostly limit myself to people and places I know to be civil and fair. Oh, and another side effect of said toxicity: Over the last couple of years I have become rather hesitant to openly talk about the shows, films or books I enjoy.

So maybe it's time to be more vocal again, just out of spite.
